SUMMARY:Dr. Stanley Malamed: Hit Me with Your Best Shot: Making Local Anesthesia More Effective and Comfortable
DESCRIPTION:3 Lecture CE \nThe program will discuss the means to make pain control both more effective and more comfortable for dental patients. This is followed by a review of the basics of emergency medicine for the dental office. Patients do not want to experience pain during their dental treatment. Fortunately\, local anesthesia forms  the backbone of pain control techniques in dentistry. Local anesthetics are the safest and most effective drugs for the prevention and management of pain. Yet\, on occasion\, achieving profound anesthesia painlessly can be challenging. In this program we will discuss the means to provide both more effective and more comfortable local anesthetic injections. Topics include: an algorithm for more successful mandibular anesthesia\, buffering (the local anesthetic “on switch”)\, and articaine (dentistry’s newest and most interesting local anesthetic). \n  \nLearning Objectives\nOn successful completion of this program the enrollee should be able to: \n\nDiscuss the algorithm for more successful mandibular anesthesia\nList three advantages of buffering local anesthetics\nDiscuss the advantages of articaine HCl compared with other dental\nlocal anesthetics\n\nREGISTRATION: Contact Jamelle Rucker at (314) 595-1300 or Jamelle.Rucker@pattersondental.com
