Course Objectives

  • Understand why alveolar ridge resorption occurs after extraction.
  • Learn steps to minimize ridge resorption following tooth removal.
  • Explore various types of bone grafts, barrier membranes, and suture materials used for ARP.
  • Effectively communicate to patients the need for ARP when planning dental implants.
  • Comprehend the financial benefits of incorporating ARP grafting into your practice.
  • Gain hands-on experience in minimally traumatic tooth removal using specialized extraction instruments.
  • Prepare extraction sockets to maximize ARP success.
  • Practice ARP techniques, including graft and membrane placement, as well as suturing methods.

Course Overview

Replacing an extracted tooth with a dental implant is increasingly preferred over fixed bridges due to benefits like easier hygiene, bone maintenance, and preserving adjacent teeth. However, post-extraction, the alveolar bone tends to resorb within the first six months, potentially complicating implant placement due to inadequate bone volume. Alveolar Ridge Preservation (ARP) grafting can mitigate this issue by reducing ridge resorption and maintaining bone volume.

This course delves into the biological basis of ridge resorption and equips clinicians with the proper techniques, materials, and tools to maintain alveolar ridge volume, facilitating future implant placement. Following the didactic portion, participants will engage in a hands-on session covering minimally traumatic tooth extraction techniques, preparation and placement of ridge preservation grafts, membrane application, and suturing.
